Cherishing New Beginnings: In-Home Newborn Photography Session, Denver, CO

Life is pretty chaotic when you have a home filled with your new bundle of joy. Yet, within the whirlwind of sleepless nights, diaper changes, and the sweet melodies of baby giggles, there exists a symphony of unparalleled joy that only new parents can fully comprehend. I felt privileged to document such an intimate occasion in the familiar comfort of their charming residence. Morning sunshine from floor-to-ceiling windows set a peaceful scene to cradle Eleanor during her very first photo shoot.

It was nice to just stay home and not have to worry about going somewhere!” — Brittany H.

While adjusting equipment, I got to gather candid moments between doting parents and sleepy yawns from baby Eleanor herself. Our priority was preserving the tranquility of this special time by working gently around the family.

Tips for Your Own In-Home Session

There is something incredibly special about photographing a family in their natural environment. No fancy studios or posed shots, just pure, unfiltered chaos and joy. For those considering your own in-home newborn session, any day from the second day you welcomed your bundle of joy home to a 2-month-old baby would be great for a newborn in-home photoshoot. These candid moments carry so much meaning and authenticity, telling the story of a family's unique journey.

Embrace the Natural Light

I love natural light because it gives so many authentic ways to show beauty in everyday moments. The best time for in-home sessions is always during daylight hours. For families with young children, the time after breakfast or when your kids wake up from a short afternoon nap probably is the best time for a photo shoot.

What to Wear

You may want to dress in what you would wear around the house on a day. I encourage moms to wear something comfortable and flowy.

Just be careful with prints, logos, and bright colors, as these will detract from your family members.

Prepare Your House for the Session, or not?

As a mom of two little girls, I know it’s not quite real to keep your kitchen spotless all the time. For moms who just have their fresh newborns, it’s extremely hard to have a perfect photogenic home like the social media dream houses. You may just clear some space near windows for natural light. Tidy up areas you'd like featured in the photos. No need for a deep clean because a lived-in feel adds charm to family stories in the photographs.
